Skein of thought

Kids love Yellow

Sunday, April 10, 2016           by The Purl Box

While still trying to decide whether or not to cast on these so cute socks by the lovely Kylie at Whiskey bay Woollens, I got a little inspired by how much the kids that came across our stand at the rural Lifestyle Expo in Ballarat last Saturday got excited by the bright yellow skeins.

Bright yellow is clearly the Pied Piper of wool.

I've a friend who just had a wee baby & I've been wanting to knit her a little something but just couldn't figure out what.

So after watching all those kids return again & again to the bright yellows, I decided the Spud & Chloe Sweater in Firefly would be just the yarn.

At least by picking a yarn, I could narrow down the pattern choices.  I've long fancied the Yoked Cardigan by Hannah Fettig & figured it would work.  It's a short sleeved cardi & by coupling that with the wool-cotton blend of the Sweater, you have something that will be a great topper in any season.  Especially in that bright, cheery yellow.  I'm not sure about fireflies, to me the colour is reminiscent of the yolk in a hard-boiled egg.... but that may be because I'm hungry!

And so quick!... I'm nearly done, despite only getting a few hours of knitting time in this week.  I do admit to cheating a little - I didn't swatch - I was going on the theory that if it was too big now it'd still work a treat come Springtime.

As an aside, I have to say how much fun it is to hang out at a show & meet so many yarn loving people.  Thanks to everyone who came to say hello.  It's such a buzz to have someone come & squish your yarn because just looking at the Prettiness is just not enough.  That, and talking to fellow knitters is always awesome.

Speaking of, I'm really looking forwards to the next day we hang out at the Woodend Winestore.  The actual date will be finalised soon, so we'll post again once we've tossed the coin, but it is going to be in May.

I'm looking forwards to the knitting & the catch ups.... & the wine of course .... and the cheese platter!!!

Happy Knitting!

Kylie

p.s. please excuse the focus on the last shot - taken by phone, which clearly thinks wine is more important than knitting!
