We've been around for such a long time now....it seems like almost a lifetime away that Kylie and I took the plunge and established The Purl Box - over 8 years ago. In that time, so many things have changed....
When we first developed our online store - it was really at the beginning of e-commerce and small brands forging a presence on the web. We did the best with the tools and resources we had available to us at the time. We've known for a long time now that we really wanted to bring a better experience online to our customers - one that really showcased our yarn and colours, and enabled you to see exactly what is available, in what quantities, in what dye lots. One that allows us to feature our beautiful products in ways that helps our customers make better choices and us to give them better service.
We've worked really hard to make that happen. Like all things, it is still a work in progress and there is still much to be done behind the scenes - but we are pretty happy with the results so far.
You'll see some other changes too, especially with our packaging. Once again, when we started - environmental packaging was difficult to find and expensive to purchase. We've moved all of our packaging across to recyclable/compostable products, including mailing labels, stickers - even sticky tape - and satchels in a very Purl Box teal. Our Oyster Yarn labels are all printed on recycled paper.
Life has been pretty challenging for us both over the last little while - in lots of different ways. But sometimes challenges are the impetus for new beginnings. We are both re-energised by the changes we've made, and you'll find us around in The Purl Box spaces a lot more from now on. We intend to send out more regular newsletters, as well as maintaining our presence on social media, and in Ravelry (for those of you able to use it). And updating this blog.....
